Idea for Fundraising

Hi Troops,

Tyler had what I thought was a good idea for a fundraiser and I thought I would see how the rest of you felt about it. Charlie's Cajun lunch for our kick-off meeting gave him the idea. What if we had a Cajun Cookin' fundraiser lunch after church in the upcoming weeks. That would keep the trip in the minds of our congregation, and would fit nicely in the theme of the trip. Team members could help prepare and serve the meal (under Charlie's direction of course). Let me know your thoughts and if this is worth pursuing.

Regards,
Gordon

Tyler/Gordon,

This sounds like a great concept!

A few thoughts come to mind.

1) Would we charge for the lunch, or have a suggested "free-will" cover charge (to not exclude those who could not pay)?

2) Would we keep or substitute this for the bake sale? We might need to broaden the menu, for some of our seniors' sensitive GI tracks.

3) We might best do such a Cajun cook-off a couple of Sundays away from "barbecue Sunday."

4) This concept might also work well as the centerpiece for a debriefing presentation after we return (complete with our video, Cajun music and maybe co-sponsored by the Mission Committee) with or without the fundraising component.

5) Both this concept and/or a bake sale will require Session approval (to be presented to Mission Committee, March 14, before the next Session meeting, 3/27/07).

Thanks for the great thought, Tyler!

Mark

ps Paul - I'm sure this discussion should be routed to the blogsite - can you make that happen, sir?

Hi Everyone,

I'm up for this idea. It could be a lot of fun as well and allow members of the church to participate with our trip. As I said yesterday, I love my home state of Louisiana and I'm very proud of the culture of the state. This will give us a chance to raise money for the trip and have a lot of fun with the members of our church.

God Bless,
Charley Jeffery

Mark,

Thanks for your comments. In response;

1) We could offer a suggested donation, allowing those who can't afford it to eat for free.

2)We could do both fundraisers if needed. Perhaps a more bland chicken and rice option could be offered as well for the lunch (for those that can't handle spicy).

3) Good point. We don't want to go over-board with the lunch-after-church thing.

4) Good suggestion.

5) Unfamiliar terrain for me.

Thanks, Gordon
